Photo A Week: Around The House

by on Mar.29, 2009, under Slacker Photos

Still playing with the macro lens which is always fun.  This week’s assignment was around the house.  I tried my first idea which was about as exciting as watching paint dry.  Amazingly enough I bailed on that one and went outside.  There I found a multitude of cool things to shoot all of which being blown around in the seemingly gale forced wind.  So in an attempt to preserve the environment I ripped the branch off the tree and took pictures on a table.

For perspective the branch looking things are actually little pine needles.   Gotta love macro.

What did I learn:

  1. Wind is REALLY hard to do macro in
  2. At 1:1 you can see every single spot of dust on the lens

Nelson, NV (Yes, it is a place)

by on Mar.25, 2009, under Random

So for a photo shoot idea my buddy Nate suggested Nelson, NV.  The smallest town I have ever been to that is still considered a collection of buildings.  Now just south of that there is a historic district which is where we spent some time.  Lots of rusty things.

Apparently, this area has been the subject of of many movies and music videos.  It is appealing to many for its rustic appeal and history and just plain rust.  It does feel much older than anything we get much exposure to in Las Vegas. Plus, some of the bluest skies I have seen in a while.

So after much fun and picture taking all over the place…well all over means about 2 blocks we donated some money and headed down a little more south.  Apparently, in  some places there are large collections of water that form naturally called rivers.  Since we didn’t believe such things existed we found one.  It was pretty amazing and got some great landscapes from it.

I love clouds and these over the water were awesome.  I didn’t do it justice.  Still it was an awesome site.
